I use real butter, not margarine. I drink Sam Adams,not Bud. And I eat Oreos, not Hyrdox. I especially avoid those store brands that try to look like Oreos but taste like suygared lard on a cracker. Blech.

Hydrox isn't a bad cookie, it's just not an Oreo.

Last week my daughter called from the store and asked if we needed anything. I told her to get some Oreos because we hadn't had any in a while. She came home with some oval shaped - fudge filled Oreos. She was all excited because they're not always available. They were good, but I was disappointed. I wanted Oreos, not Lite Oreos, not Double Stuff, not chocolate filled, just plain old Oreos.

The next time I went shopping I bought the Oreos I wanted, then hid them when I got home.

I know you're pro Mac (and I think it's probably a great machine), but for people who want a good PC laptop, Sony should not be used as the standard. I'd like to present an alternative for PC folks...

As a PC person myself (after several agonizing years of trying to decide what is the best value) I recommend PC people look into what HP has to offer. I just bought a HP Pavillion in January (and another desktop HP in August) and they are reliable, fast, and affordable. The one I bought has a 2 GHz AMD Turion 64x, 2 gig of RAM, a Dual Layer Lightscribe DVD burner, integrated web cam and microphone, and a 250 GB hard drive. I caught it on special at CircuitCity for $799 (originally $999 before $200 in mail-in rebates). The only down side is that it runs Vista (which is getting better thanks to MS updates). The desktop was about $399 (runs XP) and has decent specs too. We have three HPs total in our house now (2 of them laptops) and they are the best PCs I've ever used.

Hi! I'd love to do some episodes purely aimed at students. The trick is that my audience is mainly non-students, and I want episodes to be relevant to everyone. If you really listen closely to the material on adult learning theory in the episode, you should be able to get some real mileage out of it. Mind-mapping, multi-sensory info representation (moving hand, listening, seeing all at once), relating to existing info, and summarizing on one-sheet... the combo activates both memorization and recall; it's really a very powerful set of techniques, even if delivered in two and a half minutes...

Great way to remember this for a test, but that story has to be an urban legend. Unless it was a shot glass or an elephant tampon I doubt it would swell enough to keep from falling out when the cup was turned upside down. Definitely an interesting home experiment to test out though.

Hi!

I'm glad you enjoyed Moments of Truth. Not only does everything come together in those moments, but everything comes together to make a Big Difference.

For example, let's say you're a doctor setting up a private practice. You'll set up records, hire and manage assistants, file for insurance claims, find patients, and diagnose and treat illness.

Of all those things, the ones where you make a difference is diagnosing and treating illness. All the rest, no matter how well you do it, is nothing more than support for your Moments of Truth, which are when you diagnose and treat.

Which isn't to say the rest isn't important! If you make your support system flow smoothly, you get to focus on doctoring.

My hypothetical doctor might concentrate learning efforts on becoming great at diagnosis and treatment. Then they'd team up with someone whose passion is office management and let that person design and run the office.

(The office manager's moment of truth is when they design a system to help things run smoothly. Hopefully, that's what they lay awake at night dreaming about :-))
